We are professionals who share over one hundred and fifty years of collective experience in appraising and consulting in fine art and antiques, and in serving collectors and clients in the arts, insurance, banking and legal fields. Brigitte Fletcher
Principal, B. Fletcher & Associates, LLC

Brigitte Fletcher brings over twenty years of business experience to her firm, and over fifteen years' experience serving both a private and a corporate clientele in the Arts. Brigitte founded her art advisory firm in 1992, adding her appraisal practice in 1998. More recently she has expanded her business into a multi-specialty firm, assembling a solid team of senior-level art experts in core specialties, with the mission of offering trusted and reliable services to collectors, museums and related professionals.

Brigitte graduated from the University of Paris; she earned an MA in European Fine and Decorative Arts and Connoisseurship in the Professions of the Arts from Christie’s Education at the University of Cambridge, UK; is a graduate of the Attingham School for the Study of the English Country House and Collections and of the Royal Collection Studies, UK; holds an Expert Certification in 18th and 19th century French Furniture, and has successfully completed the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice certification and is a member of the Appraisers Association of America. Brigitte has taught courses on the History of Furniture and Decorative Arts at the Boston Architectural College and at the Rhode Island School of Design, has published numerous articles and lectures widely in the field.

Jeff Averbook
Gems and Jewelry

Jeff Averbook brings to our firm twenty-five years of experience in the jewelry industry. He has been an appraiser, diamond grader and dealer since 1978 and his career includes appraising for estate planners, attorneys, jewelry consumers and professionals. He specializes in antique/estate fine jewelry, diamonds, contemporary jewelry, fine watches, colored gemstones and pearls.

Jeff earned his BA from the University of South Florida, and he received his Graduate Gemologist Diploma (G.G.) from the Gemmological Institute of America (G.I.A.) in 1986. He is a member of the G.I.A. Alumni Association and a member of the National Association of Jewelry Appraisers (NAJA). He belongs to the New England Jewelers Association.

Roy Chatalbash

Roy Chatalbash has appraised and advised on rugs and carpets for more than fifteen years. The experience and connoisseurship which he brings to B. Fletcher & Associates are rooted, in part, in the mentorship he received from a long line of family experts in the field. Roy is one of the best regarded rug experts in New England. He has authored many articles and taught continuing education courses in his specialty. He has consulted in insurance proceedings and claims.

Susan Forster
Fine Art

Susan Forster offers B.Fletcher & Associates' clients her experience of over twenty years in the Fine Arts field, including Paintings and Sculpture, and specialized expertise in Prints and Drawings. She has been appraising, teaching, and lecturing on Art of the 18th to the 20th centuries since 1993 and has taught 19th and 20th century Art at Wake Forest University and Duke University School of Continuing Education. Susan has performed appraisals for Insurance, Donations, Estates and for Museums and Private and Corporate Collections.

Susan received her BA at Wellesley College, earned her MA at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University, and is a PhD Candidate in Art History (Modern European Art) at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University. She completed the Certified Appraisal Studies, New York University. Susan Forster has successfully completed the Uniform Standards of Professional Practice examination.

Alexander Yale Goriansky

Alexander Goriansky offers B. Fletcher & Associates' clients the experience of a long career in his specialty. He has been a trusted appraiser and consultant, and a collector and dealer of silver for more than thirty years. During that time he has worked with the Museum of Fine Arts, the Boston Athenaeum Museum, and the Nichols House Museum in Boston.

Alexander Goriansky studied Art History at Harvard College, successfully completed the Appraisal Course of the American Society of Appraisers, and successfully completed the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice examination.

Norman Hurst

Norman Hurst brings to the team of B. Fletcher & Associates more than twenty years of experience and in-depth knowledge in his specialties, which has earned him extensive respect as a consultant and appraiser. He has been an appraiser, collector, consultant and dealer since the late 1970s and his career includes appraising for estate, insurance and donation purposes, advising numerous collectors, art galleries and museums in the United States and Canada, and publishing, writing and co-authoring exhibition catalogs and articles within his areas of expertise.

Norman Hurst received his AB from Harvard College. As a long time member of the Appraisers Association of America and the International Society of Appraisers, he has earned the highest professional certification from both organizations. He is the Advisory Curator of Tribal Art for New Bedford Whaling Museum in New Bedford, MA and serves on the Visiting Committee for Oceanic Art at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA. Norman Hurst has successfully completed the Uniform Standards of Professional Practice examination.

Johanna McBrien

Johanna McBrien has over twenty years of experience in the field of American Furniture and Decorative Arts. She is an appraiser and consultant who offers B. Fletcher & Associates' clients the solid experience of an expert who has worked in a wide range of relevant fields, including the antiques industry and the art publishing industry. Johanna has also worked with museums including Historic New England in Boston, and the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA and for auction houses in New Hampshire and New York. She has published numerous articles, co-authored catalogs and publications, and lectured and taught courses in American Furniture and Decorative Arts at the Boston Architectural College and at the Rhode Island School of Design.

Lewis A. Shepard
Fine Art

Lewis A. Shepard brings to the team of B. Fletcher & Associates more than thirty years of experience and knowledge in his specialty. He has been an appraiser, collector and consultant since the 1970s. He has written appraisals for estate, insurance and donation purposes, also advising numerous collectors, art galleries and museums throughout the United States. He has written texts, exhibition catalogs and magazine articles within his areas of expertise. He was the Coordinator of Appraisal Studies at the Rhode Island School of Design 2001-2004, Department of Continuing Education.

Lewis A. Shepard received his BA in Art History from Rutgers University and his MA from Indiana University in the same discipline. He completed the Training Program at Sotheby-Parke Benett Galleries, where he was an auctioneer, cataloguer and department head. He served as the Curator of Collections at The Mead Art Museum at Amherst College. Mr. Shepard has taught at Indiana University, Amherst College, Smith College, RISD and Bentley College. He has lectured at numerous museums in New England. He has successfully completed the Uniform Standards of Professional Practice examination. He is a member of the Appraisers Association of America.

Grace Ashwell Yeomans

Grace Yeomans offers more than twenty five years of experience in the Decorative Arts field to B. Fletcher & Associates' clients. During that time Grace has been a trusted consultant and appraiser who has worked extensively with museums and auction houses in New York and Boston, and for corporate clients.

Grace Yeomans received her BA from Smith College, has attended courses and seminars at the Cooper-Hewitt Museum, New York; the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Historic Deerfield, MA and the International Ceramics Fair and Seminar, London, UK. She is a graduate of the Attingham School for the Study of the English Country House and Collections. Grace Yeomans has successfully completed the Uniform Standards of Professional Practice examination.

Grace currently serves on the Board of Governors and the Acquisitions Committee of the Shirley-Eustis House Association in Roxbury, MA, the Collections Committee at Gore Place, Waltham, MA and is a corporator of the Worcester Art Museum. Grace is Vice President of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Co-Chairman of the William Hickling Prescott House, their historic headquarters house museum in Boston, MA.
